Inter-Korea NK Leader's Sister Denounces ARF Statement Calling for 'Complete Denuclearization' on Korean Peninsula Written: 2026-07-27 09:59:38 / Updated: 2026-07-27 10:13:41 Share Print Photo : YONHAP News / Korean Central TV Kim Yo-jong, the influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, has protested a statement following a regional security forum led by Southeast Asian countries which called for the “complete denuclearization” of the Korean Peninsula. In a statement carried by the state-run Korean Central News Agency Monday, Kim denounced the ASEAN Regional Forum(ARF) Chairman’s statement issued Saturday after the annual foreign ministers’ meeting in Manila, Philippines, for dismissing the North’s Constitution, and called it “pitiful.” Kim said nuclear deterrence is the “ultimate shield” for national sovereignty and the “supreme guarantee” in defending sovereignty and that the North’s position and significance in existence as a responsible nuclear weapons state are “final and irreversible.”

The leader’s sister added that the regime’s nuclear capability will be continuously updated without a momentary stagnation.
