Yankees' Aaron Boone Wears Blame For Loss To Dodgers

New York Yankees pitcher Gerrit ColeThe New York Yankees lost 2-1 to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday and Aaron Boone took the blame following a poor decision to keep Gerrit Cole in the game.Cole had eight strikeouts, allowing just three hits and no runs through six innings against the best lineup in the big leagues. Aaron Boone left him in to start the seventh inning, and he issued a leadoff walk to Mookie Betts.

Boone made his way out to the mound, but did not make a change. He left Cole in to face Max Muncy, who punished a hanging slider.“That’s on me,” Boone said after the game.

“I felt like (Cole) was competitive in the Mookie at-bat, and I felt like he had enough to get Max,” Boone added. “He jumps out in front of him but then got a mistake. I got Headrick teed up there.

That’s on me.”Do you have a take to get off your chest? Do you want to engage in a growing Yankees community?

Comment on our content alongside staff and fans alike!Boone decided to stick with the former Cy Young Award winner, and the decision backfired. However, the Yankees were able to hang around with the best team in the league without some of their best players, so there are positives to take away from the game.

Losing is never ideal, but seeing that the Tampa Bay Rays lost twice on Friday, the Yankees did not lose any ground in the division race. However, it is worth noting that the Boston Red Sox are red hot, and are suddenly a real threat. They still trail by eight games in the division race, but are closing the gap in a hurry.
