Woman run over by express train while crossing track near Singaperumal Koil railway station

A 22-year-old woman was run over by an express train while she was crossing the railway tracks near Singaperumal Koil railway station in Chengalpet district on Sunday night.The victim has been identified as Keertika, a native of Mannargudi in Tiruvarur district. She was employed at a private company in Maraimalai Nagar and was staying in a rented house near Singaperumal Koil.

Police sources said she went to collect her mobile phone from a repair shop and was returning home with her friend. While the two attempted to cross the railway track near the station, an express train travelling from Chennai to Thoothukudi hit Keertika. She sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Her friend escaped with minor injuries.On receiving information, personnel from the Government Railway Police, Chengalpattu reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the Chengalpet Government Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
