Sign in to your ScreenRant account Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 3 is officially taking The Twisted Childhood Universe in a unique new direction. After back-to-back box office successes with the first two installments in the horror franchise, it was confirmed that a third movie was officially in development, originally planned to release after the Avengers-level crossover event Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble before shifting it to just prior to said release.
The new movie is set to be helmed by Scott Chambers, one of the central producers behind the TCU and also the actor portraying Christopher Robin, with Color Out of Space's Richard Stanley penning the script. Now, in an interview with ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns for the latest TCU installment, Pinocchio Unstrung, Chambers offered the first major insight into Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 3. The director/producer revealed that, in taking over the reins from fellow franchise boss and director Rhys Frake-Waterfield, he decided that "I don't want to [be the star and direct]" at the same time, which led to trying to figure out "a storyline that doesn't really involve Christopher" while also not impacting future plans: Scott Chambers: I already know what Rhys wants to do with Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble, and that essentially is continuing from where Winnie 2 has left.
And all of these films — Bambi, Peter Pan, Winnie 2 — they're all happening in the same week, including Pinocchio. All of them are happening at the same time, and then directly after is Poohniverse. So that's all kind of been figured out.
As he realized that "Winnie 3 doesn't really fit" with some of the early ideas, and wanting to avoid "repeating the same beats" as the second installment, Chambers began to ponder, "What if I go back and [looked at] what happened in those missing years" between Blood and Honey's prologue and the proper present day storyline, confirming that the next movie will be a prequel to the 2024 slasher sequel. Feeling that there was "some really interesting" story potential there, he and Stanley forged ahead with a new plot, which involves Pooh, Tigger and their friends being "captured and put in a circus and forced to perform": Scott Chambrers: And then you've got this fun, Carrie-esque vibe that you're getting towards the [end], the prom moment, with them escaping in the circus. So that's the route I went.
It's definitely camp. It's definitely fun. I have 24 on-screen deaths, and they're full on-screen deaths.
You see them, they're all gnarly. And my creature designs, I'm really, really happy with my Pooh. I feel like it's a cool little upgrade.
But I am still in it. I make a cameo, and that will link to Winnie 2. It was previously indicated by set photos that Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 3 would involve some kind of circus, run by the iconic antagonists, the Woozles, while also confirming that the threequel would mark the start of The Little Mermaid's journey in the TCU.
The circus' lead, Balthazar Von Woozle, is set to be played by Stanley, who indicated the character is "100 years old." However, Chambers' comments mark the first official confirmation that the movie will not be a direct sequel to its predecessor, but instead shift back to an earlier point in the timeline. Much to Chambers' point, there is plenty of potential material to be explored in the years before the adult-aged Pooh and the other Hundred Acre Wood creatures began attacking Ashdown in Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2.
The 2024 film revealed that Christopher's twin brother, Billy, and other local children has been captured and experimented on to become the animal-human hybrids of the modern day, and when factoring in the five-year gap between Christopher leaving for college and his initial return, there is a wealth of story potential there. Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 3 certainly won't be the first horror follow-up to take a prequel route instead of a sequel route. After her chilling debut in James Wan's modern classic, the first Annabelle served as a prequel to The Conjuring, while its 2017 successor went even further back to explore the origins of the terrifying doll.
Similarly, Mike Flanagan's Ouija: Origin of Evil elected for a prequel route to its 2014 predecessor, which ultimately worked in its favor with critics and audiences alike. One of the other more notable takeaways from Chambers' new plot details and franchise timeline information is that Christopher Robin is only going to appear in a cameo in Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 3 in order to better connec
