Vitla police arrest Bengaluru man over alleged derogatory Facebook comment

The Vitla police have arrested Anand A., a resident of Vidyamanya Nagar in Bengaluru, for allegedly making a derogatory comment on a Facebook post.In a complaint to the Vitla police, businessman Abdul Rahiman said that on September 19, 2025, he found a post by Vartha Bharati newspaper on the Special Investigation Team (SIT) recovering two more skulls at Bangladudde in Dharmasthala village in connection with the Dharmasthala mass burial case.

He alleged that a Facebook user with the account name ‘Sanatani Simha’ posted a derogatory comment that incited communal passion.The complaint was registered for offences punishable under Section 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with statements conducing to public mischief.The Vitla police found the account holder to be Anand.

He was arrested on Saturday and produced before a magistrate. The accused was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.Police said Anand is an accused in seven cases registered across the State for alleged derogatory comments on social media.
