The former India opener got to the landmark in 79 innings. He achieved the feat against the West Indies in the final of the Wills World Series in November 1994 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

He has also played 68 Tests and 72 T20Is. #3 Virat Kohli (75 innings) Superstar Virat Kohli is third on the list of Indian batters with fewest innings to 3,000 ODI runs. He achieved the landmark in his 75th innings.

Kohli surpassed the 3,000-run mark in one-dayers during the Commonwealth Bank Series against Sri Lanka in Adelaide in February 2012. He was dismissed for 15 off 25 in game number five - a thrilling clash that ended in a tie. Ad Kohli has played 311 matches in his ODI career so far, amassing 14,797 runs at an average of 58.

The southpaw smashed a belligerent 126 in 113 balls, with 14 fours and two sixes. India, however, fell short in a chase of 349. Ad Shreyas completed 3,000 runs in ODIs during the match against Afghanistan in Lucknow on Wednesday.
