Tom Holland gives verdict on his future as Spider-Man in the MCU

Tom Holland has no plans to hang up his Spidey suit any time soon. The 30-year-old has played superhero Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a decade since making his debut as a supporting character in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War.He reprises the character for a sixth time in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which arrives in cinemas this week.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the film’s Los Angeles premiere, Holland said: “There’s a family here at Marvel and Sony. We’ve been making these movies for 10 years and we’re all really good friends and we all still really love working together and there’s a shorthand, there’s a collaboration, there is a shared love for this character that is Peter Parker.”He continued: “When we all get together, it always feels like something magical happens, and to get to do it time and time again is something that will never really sink in for me.

It still feels like this is my first-ever premiere for this character. It has been the gift of my life.”Tom Holland says he will keep playing Spider-Man ‘as long as they’ll have me’ (Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP)Asked whether he still has plans to continue playing the superhero, Holland said: “I will do it for as long as they’ll have me.

So if this movie does good, I guess we’ll see!” Spider-Man: Brand New Day is so far proving a hit with critics and audiences alike. The blockbuster is projected to make at least $250 million on its first weekend, which would place it among the biggest openings of all time.

The Independent’s Clarisse Loughrey praised the film as “the best Spider-Man movie in more than 20 years.”“While Holland’s previous trilogy of solo films had their charms, particularly in the chemistry between his Peter, his girlfriend MJ (Holland’s offscreen partner, Zendaya), and his best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon), there’s a refreshing commitment to the promise of the film’s own title here,” she wrote. “When you’re doing press for movies you’re really proud of, it’s really easy. Because when they ask you questions about why should people go and watch this movie, you’re not lying to anyone. You really think people should go see it,” he told the Dish Podcast.

“I’ve had experiences before when people say, ‘Why should you see this movie?’ And in the back of your mind, you’re like, ‘You shouldn’t, because it’s s**t.’”Join our commenting forumJoin thought-provoking conversations, follow other Independent readers and see their repliesComments
