With their fourth and final pick on the first day of the 2026 MLB Draft, the Tigers selected their first high schooler of the proceedings, shortstop Dominic Pellegrin out of Holy Cross High School in New Orleans, in the fourth round with the No. 125 overall pick. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound infielder turned 19 last month and is committed to play for the hometown Tulane Green Wave for college.

Pellegrin landed on Louisiana state player of the year watch lists with a senior season that saw him finish the year hitting .462 with six homers, 16 doubles, two triples and 38 RBIs.Along with evidently good bat-to-ball skills, Pellegrin has displayed good range and athleticism playing in the middle of the infield.

Pellegrin could still opt to go to Tulane and pursue college baseball if he chooses not to sign with Detroit. The Tigers' other three draft picks — Coastal Carolina pitcher Cameron Flukey at No. 22, Kansas shortstop Tyson LeBlanc at No.

61, Florida Gulf Coast pitcher Evan Dempsey at No. 69 — all come from the college ranks.Andrew Graham is a freelance writer.
