Texas A&M adds UNLV RHP from transfer portal to bolster pitching depth

Texas A&M’s biggest offseason priority has been rebuilding its thin, inconsistent pitching staff, and on Sunday night, the Aggies landed a much‑needed boost. Former UNLV right‑hander Jase Evangelista committed to A&M, becoming the second pitcher to join the program since head coach Michael Earley hired new pitching coach Barry Enright.Evangelista originally committed to Texas Tech on June 5 before reopening his recruitment.

His 6.17 ERA may raise eyebrows, but the underlying profile tells a different story. The 6-foot righty was one of UNLV’s most competitive arms, logging a 4–1 record, 19 appearances, and four saves while primarily working out of the bullpen.

Across 46.2 innings, he struck out 64 and walked just 18, holding opponents to a .282 average.

He’s exactly the type of pitcher who thrives with the right development plan. Aggressive in the zone, durable, and unafraid of high‑leverage situations. For two seasons, A&M’s biggest knock has been the lack of pitcher development.

That’s the area Enright, known for blending traditional instruction with modern analytics and for building strong relationships with his players, is expected to overhaul immediately.If Evangelista can refine his command and sharpen his secondary stuff under Enright’s guidance, he has the tools to become a reliable SEC arm. For a staff in desperate need of depth and strike‑throwers, his arrival is a meaningful step in the right direction.
