Teenager allegedly stabbed multiple times in Newtown

A 17-year-old boy is recovering in hospital after allegedly being stabbed in the head and back in Newtown on Saturday morning. Emergency services were called to the intersection of King Street and Camden Street in Newtown about 12.30am, with reports that a teenager had been assaulted by a group of people who then left.

Paramedics treated the boy for “multiple stab wounds to his head and back,” NSW Police said. He was later taken to hospital and is in a stable condition. Footage shows a male wearing a black puffer jacket and no shirt standing under police guard with blood on his hands.

Police later taped paper bags around his hand. An 18-year-old was arrested at the scene and was charged with affray before being released on conditional bail. Police said officers had “established the 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old known to him were allegedly involved in an affray with three unknown males, before the unknown males allegedly stabbed the 17-year-old boy”.

Two knives were recovered at the scene. Police asked the public for information or dashcam footage. The 18-year-old will appear at Newtown Local Court on August 18.
