The Tamil Nadu Collegiate Education Department has appointed Facilitation Officers in all districts to assist students seek education loans to pursue higher education in engineering, polytechnic, and arts and science colleges.The Facilitation Officers, in the rank of Assistant Professors, will be responsible for guiding students through the process of securing loans and provide necessary assistance to them as well, according to a press release. They will collect details of students seeking loans and pass them on to district lead bank manager at all districts, acting as a bridge between the bank and the student.
The Facilitation Officers will work in collaboration with Nodal Officers at the District Collectorates who are already working on enrolment of students to colleges. The District Collectors have been instructed to conduct periodic review meetings with district coordinators of all banks, Facilitation Officers, and Nodal Officers to ensure loans are disbursed fast and without hassles. The meeting will also review pending loan applications and take steps to clear them fast, the release added.
During a review meeting of the Higher Education Department on July 6, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay had instructed the officials to ensure availability of collateral-free education loan for students so that no student is forced to discontinue higher education due to financial reasons.
