Take Gosdens’ Seet to Repel Sandringham rivals

LIKE with every Royal Ascot handicap, I find myself looking for those with plenty in hand ahead of the handicapper, and that’s no different in Friday’s Sandringham (5.00pm). Searching for the proverbial ‘Group horse in a handicap’ is a tricky business, but I think SEET fits that bill here and should prove just that in time.

John and Thady Gosden’s filly is very much on the up, winning two of her three starts. She looked set for a good clash with a well-backed Godolphin rival at Doncaster at the start of the month, but simply turned that contest into a procession in the end, comfortably winning by two lengths. Ryan Moore picks up the ride, which is another big plus.

The superstar jockey is having, as is standard, a fantastic week, and he’s the perfect man to get the best out of this filly. Of course, being the Sandringham, there are many fillies who could be anything, so I’ll cast the net a little wider with a couple more selections. GLYFADA looks one to keep onside for Donnacha O’Brien.

After getting off the mark over an extended 10 furlongs at Naas, she stepped forward again dropped down to the mile at Killarney. A mark of 91 looks lenient with Donnacha having a recent track record of improving fillies. Oisin Murphy takes the ride, which also adds to her chances.

REPEL will also be on the shortlist. Francis-Henri Graffard has had a mixed week, with Map Of Stars’ brilliant Wolferton win balanced by Daryz’s disappointing defeat to Ombudsman. This filly is a two-time winner, including when dominant over seven furlongs at Nancy two weeks ago.

She’s got an excellent Juddmonte pedigree, which just screams improvement with racing, and Graffard wouldn’t be bringing her over for the fresh Ascot air. I’ll play Seet in the Win and Place World Pool markets and roll the other two fillies in with her for a Quinella (pick the first two home in any order). POINTERS FRIDAY Seet (Win and Place) 5.
