State to increase free treatment cover for accident victims, says U.T. Khader

The State government has proposed increasing free treatment coverage ₹2.5 lakh for accident victims, Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T.

Khader said in Mangaluru on Wednesday.Talking to reporters, Mr. Khader said the Union government had launched the PM-Road Accident Victims Hospitalization and Assured Treatment (RAHAT) scheme, modelled on the State government’s Mukhyamantri Santwana Harish Scheme to provide free treatment of up to ₹1.

5 lakh for accident victims for a period of one week from the time of admission to hospital. “Due to technical reasons, including those related to enrolment, not many have made use of the PM RAHAT scheme in the State,” Mr. Khader said.

The Minister said he was holding talks with officials, empanelled hospitals and other stakeholders. “We (the State government) want to contribute to increasing the free treatment limit to ₹2.5 lakh.

We will relaunch the Union government’s accident relief scheme by making it more beneficial to accident victims,” Mr. Khader said.Mr.

Khader said the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine was being administered to girls aged 14 with the consent of parents, and that there was no forcible vaccine administration. “Health department personnel are making parents aware of the importance of the HPV vaccine. It is only with their consent that the vaccine is being administered,” the Minister said.

The first round of the Statewide HPV vaccination drive was held between March and May. The second round began in June and will continue till August. So far, 6,956 girls have received the vaccine in the two rounds in Dakshina Kannada.
