State-level inter-school athletic competition to be held at Velammal Global School in Madurai

The first-ever inter-school State-level athletic competition would be held at Velammal Global School, Madurai - organised by the Tamil Nadu Athletics Federation, said federation chairman Latha and Velammal Group founder and chairman M.V. Muthuramalingam here on Saturday.

Speaking to media persons, they said that more than 4,000 students from 150 schools across Tamil Nadu will participate in this competition to be held at the newly laid state-of-the art track at Velammal Global School at Chintamani from July 24..The two-day competition will be a milestone initiative to strengthen grassroots athletics by providing a professionally organised and officially recognised platform for young athletes to showcase their talent, gain valuable competitive experience and excel, and will help identify and nurture promising young athletes at the school level, she said.These athletic championships are driven by a long-term vision of creating future champions who can bring Olympic glory to India.

They will play 76 matches in 4 categories (boys/girls under 10, 12, 14 and 17 years old), Ms. Latha said and added that this is the largest inter-school athletics championship in the State.If students studying in rural areas can run 100 metres in 10 seconds, the Velammal Group will fully cover their educational and sports needs, said Mr.
