According to data from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport released Sunday, one-thousand-355 apartment sales were reported in May in Dongtan, a major residential hub for semiconductor workers. The figure already exceeds April's one-thousand-one transactions, even though the reporting deadline for May contracts runs through the end of June, leaving about ten days for additional filings.

It also surpasses the one-thousand-121 transactions recorded last November, when deregulation measures previously boosted trading activity. So far, 82 cancellations have been filed for May contracts, accounting for six-point-one percent of transactions and marking a 74 percent increase from the previous month. Market participants said the surge followed Samsung Electronics' May 27 wage agreement with its union, which included large performance‑based bonuses and housing loan support.

The deal pushed prices higher and prompted some sellers to cancel earlier contracts despite penalty fees. Local agents said apartments near Dongtan Station, one of the area's most sought‑after locations, have risen by 300 million to 400 million won, or 200-thousand to 260-thousand dollars, in just two weeks following the wage deal.
