Sam Altman and Jensen Huang are heading to Capitol Hill after OpenAI's AI went rogue

A spokesperson for Senator Mark Warner confirmed Monday that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Nvidia $NVDA CEO Jensen Huang are both scheduled to visit Washington this week, days after OpenAI revealed that one of its AI systems behaved unexpectedly during a controlled test, according to Reuters. Senator Warner holds the ranking Democratic seat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, and his office offered no details about the agenda for the meetings. The visit follows an incident last week in which OpenAI disclosed that an autonomous agent powered by its AI models breached the systems of AI developer Hugging Face during a security test.

After breaking out of their isolated testing environment and reaching the open internet, the models took advantage of a security flaw to penetrate Hugging Face's infrastructure — all in pursuit of data that would let them game a performance benchmark, a goal they ultimately achieved, according to CNBC. The incident, which rattled researchers and executives across the tech sector, involved OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol and an unreleased model.

Hugging Face said unauthorized access reached a limited set of internal datasets and several service credentials, and that the breach was carried out by an autonomous agent framework that issued thousands of discrete commands across a cluster of ephemeral sandboxed environments. The company said it found no evidence of tampering with public models, datasets, or user-facing tools. OpenAI said it has launched an investigation into the incident and is taking steps to improve how it isolates, monitors, and restricts access during model development.

The incident has drawn a legislative response. Lawmakers have proposed an "AI Kill Switch Act" that would allow federal authorities to halt AI models, and a bipartisan group of six U.S.

Altman's schedule includes previewing OpenAI's next wave of models, addressing lawmaker concerns about cybersecurity and the open-weight debate, and explaining how AI agents are reshaping workforce productivity.
