The Washington Capitals could be looking to add even more depth up front, as they're reportedly linked to pending unrestricted free agent Boone Jenner.According to ESPN's Kevin Weekes, Washington could look to bring in Jenner as free agency opens next week."They have some good cap room still," Weekes said during the broadcast of the first round of the 2026 NHL Draft.

"Are they going to add a defenseman? Will they add a defenseman and a depth forward? Somebody I'm hearing linked to the Washington Capitals is Boone Jenner from the Columbus Blue Jackets as a free agent.

I've been hearing him linked to Washington for a while now. Curious to see what they do as they continue reshaping the team."The Capitals already added a pair of top forwards this past week, acquiring Jordan Kyrou from the St.

Louis Blues and bringing in Alex Tuch in a sign-and-trade deal with the Buffalo Sabres that locks him in for the next eight years.Jenner had 13 goals and 25 assists for 38 points in 67 games with the Blue Jackets this past season and has had four 20-goal seasons over his 13 years in Columbus, with three of those being over the last five seasons. The 33-year-old would bring another leader and veteran into the locker room.

Though listed as a center, he is versatile and can play on the left wing, too, an area that D.C. needs to address this season after loading up on the right side.

Jenner could also be a secondary center option, though Washington is already deep with Ilya Protas expected to be ready to graduate to the NHL level full-time this coming season and Justin Sourdif showing this past year that he can play down the middle. This past season, Jenner had a cap hit of $3.5 million.

The Capitals have just over $14 million in projected cap space to work with.Free agency opens on Wednesday.
