Report: Boston Celtics looking for big man depth; Detroit center Isaiah Stewart a target?
Boston has reportedly had prior interest in Minnesota's Gobert as recently as last February as well.
The Boston Celtics are reportedly looking to make some improvements to their big man rotation, according to recent reporting from the Stein Line's Jake Fischer. Amid all the hubbub over a potential trade for Milwaukee Bucks star big man Giannis Antetokounmpo, Fischer has found come across some chatter hinting at what else Boston President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens and the Celtics front office might be looking to accomplish this offseason."Boston is known to be looking for frontcourt upgrades and has liked (Detroit Pistons center) Stewart for some time," writes the Stein Line, noting that Boston would also have to compete with the likes of the Bucks, San Antonio Spurs, and Miami Heat if he is available for trade.
And per Fischer, that trade sounds perhaps not only likely, but immanent. The big man interest tied to Boston by the Stein Line does not end there, however. Adding some depth to the potential Minnesota Timberwolves interest in Celtics guard Derrick White is reporting that the Celtics may also have interest in trading for T-Wolves center Rudy Gobert."
The Celtics project to be active on the trade market even if they don’t come away with Antetokounmpo," writes Fischer, who does not believe, in spite of these reports, that "the Celtics are actively shopping Brown or Derrick White." They are, however, listening "on trade inquires for both key cogs from the title team more intently than ever before."Brown is not expected to be moved in a deal that is not bringing back Giannis, per his reporting.
"It would also be a surprise," if White was dealt. The Stein Line also notes that Boston has had prior interest in Minnesota's Gobert as recently as last February. No new interest to report there, but one of several threads worth keeping an eye on with the usual silly season grain of salt.
