He recorded 30 hits, half of which went for extra bases, drew 11 walks and drove in 22 runs in just 115 at-bats in the month. Duran slugged nine home runs, four doubles and a triple, finishing with an OPS of .879.
He improved his batting average from .172 in April to .261 in May.
Unfortunately for Duran, the hot month was just that: a hot month.He has struggled in the first handful of games in June. His batting average has returned to a very pedestrian .
167 in the month and .210 overall. Duran gave a very honest assessment of his play thus far to MassLive's Chris Cotillo."
I'm going to be honest with you. I've felt terrible. Playing like (expletive) at the plate," Duran said.
"But just gotta figure it the (expletive) out. I'm not really doing much for the team at the plate. So I've just gotta be better."
Duran's home run on Saturday in the eighth inning of the team's home win over the Texas Rangers was massive. The 400-foot shot gave closer Aroldis Chapman two insurance runs before going out for the save. But it was also Duran's first and only home run in June.
