According to the top office, Kim made the remark while speaking to foreign correspondents in Seoul Thursday ahead of Lee's tour of San Francisco, three South American countries and Germany. The presidential aide anticipated announcement of a mega-sized long-term memory chip supply deal and strategic investment for an AI data center in San Francisco between the global big techs and South Korean businesses like Samsung Electronics, SK hynix and Naver.
Asked about a conflict of policy between the expected electricity demand from the AI data center and fulfillment of the country's nationally determined contributions, Kim said he would address the issue through low-carbon-focused electricity innovation. The policy director said there has been a change of sentiment regarding the use of small modular reactors and nuclear energy to reduce carbon emissions, and that Seoul is set to announce new goals in the area of new energy next month.
