In a statement on Saturday, the party's senior spokesperson Park Sung-hoon accused the president of trying to pave the way for another cash-handout supplementary budget as his approval rating declines. During a meeting on Friday, President Lee said demand for GPUs is expected to continue growing.
He added that while it is unclear whether the government will draw up another supplementary budget, additional fiscal resources may become available and should be considered. Park said strengthening the country's AI competitiveness is an essential national task, but argued that such competitiveness should be built through long-term investment, regulatory reform and greater private-sector investment, rather than a one-off supplementary budget. He also said the country is struggling with high inflation, a weak currency and high interest rates, accusing the Lee administration of relying solely on supplementary budgets and cash handouts for its economic policy.
Park added that if higher-than-expected tax revenue is generated, it should be used to reduce national debt and improve fiscal soundness, rather than spent at the president's discretion.
