Police arrest two, seize firearms in Bidar; search on for two more

The Bidar City police have arrested two men for making an attempt to sell illegal country-made firearms and seized five country-made pistols, 26 live cartridges, 10 empty cartridge cases, five swords and a motorcycle, all valued at ₹6.73 lakh, from them.Addressing a press conference in Bidar on Thursday, Superintendent of Police Pradeep Gunti said that the police acted on credible information that the two men were trying to sell illegal firearms near the Ring Road on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday evening.

A special team raided the spot and apprehended the two. A search of three bags found in their possession led to the seizure of the five country-made pistols, 26 live cartridges, 10 empty cartridge cases and five swords.During preliminary investigation, the accused confessed to having procured the firearms from Nanded in Maharashtra.

Then, they brought the weapons to Bidar to sell them at higher prices.They also disclosed that they opened 10 rounds of fire to test the weapons before bringing them for sale, the officer added.A case has been registered under the Arms Act against four men.

The two arrested have been remanded in judicial custody, while efforts are on to trace the other two accused, he said.Mr. Gunti also appealed to the public not to involve themselves in the purchase, sale or transportation of illegal firearms, ammunition or narcotic substances.
