Pinoys want Sara to address impeach raps

A large majority of Filipinos want Vice President Sara Duterte to address the impeachment charges against her.

A Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey conducted from June 20 to 29 found that 70 percent of the respondents want Duterte to address the impeachment charges to be able to answer all allegations against her pertaining to corruption.

It went up from 67 percent in the previous poll conducted in March. Only 17 percent said Duterte should not address the charges, down from 19 percent, while undecided respondents hardly moved from 14 percent to 13 percent. Those who agreed that Duterte should face the charges increased across areas except Metro Manila, where it dropped from 74 percent to 70 percent.

It was highest among those in balance Luzon at 73 percent from 69 percent in the previous poll, followed by those in the Visayas at 70 percent from 61 percent and Mindanao at 64 percent from 62 percent. The survey found that 74 percent of the respondents were aware of the impeachment proceedings against the Vice President. It significantly went up from 43 percent in March.

“Awareness of the impeachment case, even before the interview, was highest in Metro Manila at 79 percent, followed by Mindanao at 77 percent, Balance Luzon at 74 percent and the Visayas at 69 percent,” SWS said. “Awareness rose with education: it was highest among college graduates at 93 percent, followed by those with some senior high school up to some college at 78 percent, junior high school graduates at 77 percent, elementary graduates at 69 percent and non-elementary graduates at 56 percent,” it added. The survey had 1,200 respondents and a margin of error of plus/minus three percent for national percentages.
