Phillies Searching for Additions After Sending Andrew Painter to Triple-A

If the Philadelphia Phillies want to win a World Series this year, it's going to require them to go out and make a trade for some of the top players on the trade market. The Phillies, at least right now, are in a position where they have to add a starter. With how poorly Andrew Painter was throwing the baseball, the front office decided to go in a different direction and option him to Triple-A.

I think everybody could admit that it was time to move on from Painter, as he was clearly one of the worst starters in Major League Baseball. It's unfortunate that his first cup of coffee in the league didn't go as planned, but this shouldn't be too surprising to many. It's not easy playing at this level, and unfortunately, Painter found that out the hard way.

Whether he lost confidence, doesn't have the stuff to be the starter he wants to be in this league, or anything else, it was evident that it's going to take time for him to figure some things out. Sending him back to Triple-A made the most sense in this entire situation.The Phillies, however, are being smart in this situation and are reportedly looking to replace him, with reports now indicating that they've already engaged teams recently about trading for a starting pitcher.

“The Phillies, according to multiple league sources, have engaged teams in recent weeks about the availability of certain starting pitchers — think swingman types who could be a fifth starter or pitch as long relievers in the bullpen. It’s June, and no team is looking to shed viable starting pitching at this time of year, so any outside acquisition right now would be difficult.“It’s not a straightforward problem.

The Phillies would not want to commit quality prospect capital toward acquiring a starting pitcher who would not slot into a hypothetical postseason rotation.
