Novak Djokovic surpasses Roger Federer for most Wimbledon wins on men's side with 106th victory, advances to quarters

In the process, the 39-year-old Serbian etched his name into All England Club history.
With a 7-6(6), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Russian qualifier Roman Safiullin, Djokovic surpassed Swiss legend Roger Federer for the most Wimbledon singles wins on the men's side to date. Djokovic has 106 and counting. That said, he'll need 14 more victories at London's Grand Slam to match Martina Navratilova, a Czech-American who tops the women's list with 120 singles wins at the grass-court major.

But, after previously discussing the importance of preserving energy early in major tournaments, he made it through the first three rounds of this year's Wimbledon with relative ease.None of those matches went to five sets. Thanks to Friday's record-breaking feat, he keeps on a collision course with world No.
1 and defending Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner, who faces Japan’s Shintaro Mochizuki on Sunday. Djokovic fell in straight sets to the now-24-year-old Italian phenom in last year's semifinals. Sinner and Djokovic are set to meet there again this year if both win their respective quarterfinal matches.
Djokovic proposed on Friday that he and Federer play for Wimbledon win No. 106. Instead, it came against Safiullin, who has dropped to 132nd in the ATP rankings following a collection of injuries.
