Noah Wyle shares how The Pitt season 3 will differ from what’s come before

The Pitt has become the award-winning breakout TV hit of the moment, but the show is making a tweak to its winning formula in the next season.Noah Wyle, who plays lead character Dr Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, is currently co-writing and starring in season three of the medical drama, set in a busy Pittsburgh emergency room. However, he said that, while the first two seasons were set in the present day, raising awareness of topical subjects ranging from vaccine conspiracy theories, gun ownership and the influx of AI, season three will move the needle back slightly.

We didn't do that this season.”He said that, for the first time, the show will reference events that have already happened, “and not where we’re going”.Wyle said this decision stemmed from the “anticipation and fear and preparation going into January and the executive of the Big Beautiful Bill that will have a lot of ramifications in Americans' lives”.

The bill will lead to cuts in the healthcare world, as well as in the food assistance and energy sectors, meaning the new season will focus on “what most people are going to have to do to prepare themselves for a very harsh reality in the next seven to eight years, to underscore the point of how desperate this particular moment in time is”.Watch Apple TV+ free for 7 dayNew subscribers only. £9.

It received 25 nods in total, including for Wyle and his co-stars Katherine LaNasa, Sepideh Moafi, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Gerran Howell, Patrick Ball and Shawn Hatosy.Another change in season three will be the departure of Supriya Ganesh, whose senior resident Dr Samira Mohan controversially won’t be a part of the action. There will also be a location switch up for Victoria Javadi (Shabana Azeez), who’ll move from the ER to a psychiatry rotation.

Speaking about his future on The Pitt, Wyle told The Independent: “I’m committed, not only contractually, but also emotionally, to exploring this for several more seasons. I have felt that we’re doing a hospital show that has embedded into it a very specific mental health journey of one individual, and we’re not even to the halfway point of that journey. So I’m really curious and committed to seeing it through.”
