Newly married woman found dead; alleges harassment in death note

A 25-year-old private school teacher allegedly ended her life at her residence in the Kamakshipalya Police Station limits on Sunday.She reportedly left a note blaming her husband and sister-in-law for harassment.The deceased has been identified as Shwetha, 25, a native of Tarikere in Chikkamagaluru district.

She was working as a teacher at a private school and was living with her husband’s family at Sunkadakatte in Bengaluru.According to the police, Shwetha married Murthy, a native of Kunigal, about four months ago after the two were in a relationship. The couple had initially lived in Lakshman Nagar, near Hegganahalli Cross, before moving to Sunkadakatte with the husband’s family.

In the purported death note addressed to her mother, Shwetha alleged that her husband and sister-in-law had subjected her to continuous mental harassment. She wrote that she no longer wished to live and urged her mother not to forgive those responsible for her death. She also sought forgiveness from her mother.

Shwetha’s mother, Pushpa, alleged that her daughter had been physically and mentally harassed by her husband on a daily basis. She claimed the family had also demanded additional money despite the marriage being conducted according to their wishes. According to Shwetha, she had repeatedly called home saying she could no longer endure the harassment.

The family had advised her to leave the house and stay elsewhere temporarily, but before that could happen, she allegedly took the extreme step.The Kamakshipalya police visited the scene, recovered the death note, and registered a case based on the complaint lodged by her family. Further investigation is under way.
