The New York Times removed ex-Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro from their "39-ish Most Sylish People of 2026" list earlier this month, according to an editor's note.The note at the bottom of the list, dated July 7, read, "This article has been updated to remove an entry on Nicolás Maduro. Read our Styles story about how an image of him in a tracksuit became a meme."

The outlet's style section reported on how President Donald Trump's Truth Social post of a photo of Maduro in a grey tracksuit following his capture went viral and quickly became a meme.Page Six first reported the removal on Friday. The list was published by the Times on July 7.
