Netflix's recent attempts on that front have been a mixed bag. Ransom Canyon got off to a promising start and is coming back for season 2 on July 23. The Abandons, despite the star power of Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson, was cancelled after a quiet debut.

The high-profile remake Little House on the Prairie is hoping to fare better. It's based on the books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, which were published in the 1930s. They've since sold more than 73 million copies in over 100 countries and paved the way for a seminal 1974 television series.

Netflix's take on Little House on the Prairie has debuted at 80% on Rotten Tomatoes. The remake currently has 10 reviews, with only two that lean negative. The Average of Rated Reviews, which takes into account a critic's letter or numerical grade when available, is currently at 6.

70/10. But for such a high-profile release, the numbers are expected to change swiftly as more reviews are added. Early press releases described it as a “sweeping survival saga” while also serving as an origin story of the American West. More specifically, Netflix's Little House on the Prairie season 1 is centered on the Ingalls family leaving Wisconsin to find a new home in Independence, Kansas. The ensemble is praised in ScreenRant's review of Little House on the Prairie by Cher Thompson, noting that they help give the classic a much-needed update. Thompson likewise praises the series as a “visual dream” and highlights the cinematic style. Collider's Maggie Lovitt similarly praises the remake, saying the actors make it worth watching.

THR's Daniel Feinberg is positive overall on Netflix's latest, calling it “heart-filled and honorable.” It remains to be seen how the audience responds to the remake. But, overall, the early buzz is great for the already renewed Little House on the Prairie season 2.
