Nation’s first girls flag football school to open in Texas with help of former NFL star
As flag football grows on the high school and collegiate levels, Texas Sports Academy prepares to launch a flag football arm this fall with the help of a Super Bowl winner.
Texas Sports Academy will be opening the nation’s first girls flag football school this fall, it announced Tuesday, June 16.The school will operate out of the Elite Performance Training facility in Frisco, Tex., about 30 minutes north of Dallas, and will welcome approximately 20 girls in grades 6 to 12 for its first year.
Applications for this fall are now open. A star-studded cast will be joining the academy – Anquan Boldin, a former NFL star and Super Bowl Champ, and Odessa Jenkins, founder and CEO of the Women’s National Football Conference, will be joining as founding advisors, while USA flag national team member Loryn Goodwin will lead on-field development as the academy’s inaugural head coach. “For decades, young women who dreamed of playing football had to fight for opportunities.
Today, we are creating a place built specifically for them, a place where they can learn, compete, lead, and thrive,” said Jenkins in a press release about the academy’s opening. “The fact that the first flag football school in America is an all-girls institution speaks volumes about where this sport is headed,” she said. Texas Sports Academy is a network of sports-focused schools across the Lone Star State, operating on a model of two hours for academics per day and the remainder for athletic training.
Their girls volleyball academy is also currently operating out of the Elite Performance Training facility in Frisco, where flag will launch. The launch of the academy comes as flag football is exploding across the country in the lead up to its Olympic debut in 2028. It is currently an officially sanctioned high school sport in 23 states, with 16 of those sanctioning it in the past two years.
The NCAA has also recommended it for national championship status at the college level by 2028. The University of Nebraska became the first Power 4 team to announce a collegiate flag team earlier this year, set to launch in tandem with the championship in 2028.Flag football is not yet an official
