The NASCAR Cup Series is set to arrive at Sonoma Raceway for its 18th race of the 2026 season. It is the only date in Sonoma, as NASCAR visits the venue once per season. In 2025, Shane van Gisbergen won the pole for the Cup Series race at Sonoma, marking his third and final pole position during the season.

First, the Cup Series needs to qualify for the event in Sonoma, and the qualifying format is simple. The session will be split into Groups A and B. Each group will have a certain amount of time to complete a run.
