Morgan the hero as Tyrone edge Mayo

Tyrone join Louth, Cork and Galway in the quarter-finals in a fortnight's time, while Mayo will face one of Dublin, Meath, Kerry or Monaghan in round three next weekend.Tight and tense battleThe sides were level on seven separate occassions over the course of a tight and tense opening half. So there was no surprise that the two sides were tied at four apiece after 15 minutes, Enda Hession and Ronan Cassidy leading the scoring charge for their respective counties.

In a nip and tuck affair both sides had goal chances foiled midway through the half, Kobe McDonald sending Jordan Flynn clean through, but Flynn's effort was straight down the throat of an alert Niall Morgan. The Red Hands immediately set about the counter-attack, Eoin McElholm getting in behind the Mayo defence, only to the dispossessed by Eoin McGreal at the vital moment. Tyrone kicked six wides over the course of the half, as Ethan Jordan and Michael McKernan struck wides from two-point range.

Andy Moran's side started to get to grips with the contest, McDonald, Paddy Durcan and Ryan O'Donaghue landing three scores on the bounce. Mayo looked to be heading in at the break in front, as Sam Callinan's shot was blocked by Peter Teague. The home team raced forward in an attempt to conjure up a shot before the hooter sounded.

McKernan's effort looked to be dropping short only to be punched over by Conn Kilpatrick, there was nothing between the sides at eight apiece once the hooter did sound.Morgan kicks the decisive scoreImage source, Getty ImagesImage caption, Darragh Beirne hit the net for Mayo in the second halfIt was a nip and tuck second half also, Jack Carney's two-pointer edged Mayo ahead before the introduction of McCurry, the Edendork forwards five points helped edge his team into a three point lead midway through the half. The visitors looked on song, as Morgan's poor kick-out allowed Darragh Beirne through to burst the net on 54 minutes, just after McDonald's two-pointer to edge Mayo two in front.

It was drama galore in the final minutes, Morgan nailed a 45 to level for a 10th time, before Callinan fisted over with two to play. Tyrone won a free in front of the stand from two-point range, which proved to be the winner as Aidan O'Shea's late shot dropped short.Tyrone now have a week's break ahead of the All-Ireland quarter-finals, while Mayo head for Round Three, where they will face one of the winners of this weekend's round 2B fixtures.
