Mick Jagger Isn’t Happy About England’s World Cup Defeat, But Liam Gallagher Won’t Look Back in Anger: ‘Best Team Won’

The team last competed in the final in 1966 when it beat West Germany 4-2, and have appeared in three semifinals since, losing them all (1990, 2018, 2026). Fans have even jokingly referred to the Jagger Jinx which, like Drake’s curse, has seen the side that the 82-year-old is supporting losing the match. At the 2014 tournament, the teams that he backed (England, Italy and Brazil) all failed in their bids to win the trophy. Four years later, Jagger was present for England’s semifinal match against Croatia which the team also lost.

Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, however, took the loss on the chin. “Respect to the lads it’s nobody’s God given right to win the WC,” he wrote on X. “Congratulations to Argentina best team won onwards n sideways.”

His comments come as the band’s song “Wonderwall” is in contention for the No. 1 spot on the U.K.’
