The New York Mets made a notable change to their roster before Tuesday's game against the Cincinnati Reds. According to a report from SNY's Chelsea Janes, the Mets have designated infielder Vidal Brujan for assignment. Brujan lasted just nine games with the NL East club and had one hit in 13 trips to the plate.
The Mets were his fourth team in the past two seasons. "Once upon a time, Bruján was considered a top prospect. Baseball America had him in the middle of its top 100 list from 2019 to 2022," Darragh McDonald of MLB Trade Rumors wrote.
"In the Rays’ system at that time, he was considered a fairly well-rounded player. Though he didn’t have power, he had speed, contact ability and strong defense at multiple positions." Assumingly, the Mets will add infielder Zack Short to the roster, as he was claimed off waivers yesterday.
Similar to Brujan, Short has bounced around the Majors throughout his six-year career. Thus far in 2026, he's spent time with the Houston Astros and Detroit Tigers. MORE: Phillies extending Cristopher Sanchez to his $107 million deal was geniusIn 264 career games, Short is a .

565 OPS. It's his strong defensive work at shortstop and second and third base that helps him land new deals in the Majors. Meanwhile, Brujan is likely to hit the waiver wire once again.
The Mets DFA'd the 28-year-old before Opening Day, but he cleared waivers and stayed with the organization.
