Speaking at the second quarter meeting of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) for the Negros Island Region hosted by Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante, Lacson said public safety is closely linked to the economic stability of local communities.

He cited the continuing threats posed by African swine fever (ASF) and the red-striped soft scale insect (RSSI), saying their impact extends well beyond the agricultural sector. To address the problem, Lacson urged local government units, law enforcement agencies, and the agriculture sector to strictly enforce disease and pest control measures while ensuring prompt assistance reaches affected communities. Lacson also expressed concern over recent violent incidents involving young people, particularly those occurring in and around schools. “Schools should remain places of learning, personal growth, and safety,” he said.

Article continues after this advertisement He stressed that police intervention alone would not solve youth violence, calling instead for a coordinated effort among parents, teachers, schools, and community leaders to promote values formation, responsible citizenship, and peaceful conflict resolution. Lacson reminded the council that lasting peace and stability cannot be achieved by a single institution.
