Marlins Secure Series Win Over Giants Behind 4th Inning Rally
Marlins move above .500 for the first time since April as a four-run fourth inning powers a 6-3 win over the Giants. Max Meyer stays undefeated at 8-0, the bullpen shuts the door late, and Miami secures the series while eyeing a third June sweep.
For the first time since April 13, the Miami Marlins are above .500, at 39-38 after beating the San Francisco Giants 6-3 on Saturday.With the win, the Marlins have won their third straight home series in June.
So far this month, the Marlins have only lost one series. The Giants had opportunities in the game but failed to capitalize on them, stranding nine runners.The Marlins managed to grab the lead early twice in the game, but the Giants answered with runs of their own.
A four-run fourth inning, however, proved to be the turning point. Miami took the lead for the final time after San Francisco tied the game in the top half of the fourth inning, pushing four runs across the plate in the bottom half of the fourth to take control. From there, the Marlins never looked back.
Giants starter Trevor McDonald was charged with the loss after being chased from the game in the fourth inning, dropping his record to 2-5 with a 4.93 ERA on the season.McDonald threw 69 pitches, 38 of them for strikes, and allowed three hits and five runs, though only three were earned.
He walked three batters and struck out one.Max Meyer struggled at times but battled through to earn his eighth win of the season. Meyer remains undefeated and has yet to record a loss this year.
With the win, Meyer passes Dontrelle Willis in franchise history for the best start to a season, improving to 8-0. Willis won his first seven decisions during the 2005 season.Final line for Max Meyer:5.
