A man was found beaten to death at a calendering mill near Mamara Thottam Palayam in Erode district in the early hours of Sunday (July 5).The deceased was identified as Kannan, a resident of Veerappanchatram in Erode who was employed as a driver at a calendering mill, owned by a resident of Sengunthar Nagar identified as Velmurugan.According to police, Kannan collected his salary on Saturday night, consumed alcohol at a liquor outlet and later returned to the mill, where he slept in a room on the premises.

Workers who arrived at the mill on Sunday morning found Kannan lying dead with bleeding head injuries and alerted the mill management. Based on a complaint lodged by the owner, personnel from the Erode North Police Station rushed to the spot and began an inquiry.Kannan’s body was sent to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Perundurai for a post-mortem examination.
