Man accused of poisoning his children escapes from police custody at Thrissur Medical College Hospital
Muthu was under police custody while undergoing treatment; the two children continue to be in critical condition
A man accused of poisoning his two young children before attempting to end his own life escaped from police custody at the Government Medical College, Thrissur on Monday (July 6, 2026) afternoon.The accused, identified as Muthu, a native of Tamil Nadu residing at Anakkal near Perumpilavu in Thrissur district, had been admitted to the hospital after allegedly consuming rat poison.According to the police, Muthu allegedly administered the poison to his six-year-old daughter, Rithika, and seven-year-old son, Rithin, before consuming it himself.
The two children were rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital, where they continue to be in critical condition, hospital sources said.Muthu, who was under police custody while undergoing treatment, allegedly escaped from the hospital at around 3 p.m.
