LeBron James Just Explained Why He Won’t Sign With Trail Blazers
The NBA legend’s demand for "championship habits" reveals a significant gap between Portland’s ambitious roster moves and the organizational stability required to land the game’s biggest star.
LeBron James still hasn't revealed where he'll play next season. He may have eliminated the Portland Trail Blazers without realizing it, though.During a recent appearance on “The Shop,” James provided some insight into what he values as he prepares to choose potentially the final destination of his NBA career.
“I wanna compete at a high level,” James said, adding that he wants an organization that practices “championship habits every day.”That doesn't sound like Portland — at least not yet.The Blazers returned to the playoffs last season and added another All-Star in Ja Morant this summer, but they're still far from an established championship operation.
Portland has a first-year head coach in Micah Nori, a new owner in Tom Dundon and a roster that doesn't appear close to completion. The backcourt is overflowing with Morant, Damian Lillard, Jrue Holiday, Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe. Dundon is only beginning his tenure as owner, Nori has yet to coach a game for the franchise and the front office is still trying to establish exactly what this version of the Blazers is supposed to become. So this isn't merely about whether James could coexist with Morant, Lillard and Avdija. It's about whether he would trust Portland to make the necessary decisions around th
