KPSC temporarily stays veterinary officer selection list, forms internal inquiry committee to review exam process

The Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) temporarily put on hold the selection list for veterinary officers and formed an internal sub-committee to probe into allegations of malpractices during the conduct of exam and evaluation, on Sunday. This comes a day after the Vidhana Soudha Police registered a FIR regarding alleged corruption and malpractices in the recruitment process against the now suspended KPSC Chairman Shivashankarappa S. Sahukar, other KPSC officials, and 29 candidates who made it to the list.

Mr. Sahukar is facing another FIR for alleged malpractices in selection of his two daughters to government posts while he was chairman, prompting the Governor to suspend him. Following the FIR, the KPSC held an emergency meeting on Sunday where a sub-committee led by senior KPSC member Shakuntala Dundigoudar was formed.

It has three other members. The committee has been tasked with reviewing the entire recruitment process and submitting a report in a week. Till then, the selection list has been temporarily stayed.

Political fallout The alleged scam in the KPSC coming close on the heels of the BJP being pushed on the backfoot over youth protests against the NEET paper leak, the party has decided to raise the issue aggressively in the upcoming Monsoon Session of the State legislature. BJP State president B.Y.

Vijayendra said several candidates who were cheated in the recruitment exam had met him and the party would back their protests. He alleged there was a delay in filing an FIR in the case as the police waited for the government’s approval. He demanded a thorough investigation into the alleged scam.

When it was pointed out that the now suspended KPSC Chairman, against whom there are two FIRs, including for alleged scam in recruitment of veterinary officers, was appointed during the BJP tenure, he said there was no question of backing anybody who was guilty.
