KB Kookmin Bank will launch a corporate cross-border payment service in August 2026 built on Kinexys, JPMorgan’s permissioned blockchain platform, targeting import and export businesses that need to send money to 10 countries.
The move makes KB Kookmin the first South Korean financial institution to use Kinexys for commercial payments. No public crypto tokens are involved. This is blockchain without the volatility, running on JPMorgan’s private Blockchain Deposit Accounts rather than anything you’d find on a decentralized exchange.
What KB Kookmin is actually building The service covers USD remittances to South Korea, the US, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, India, Thailand, Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, and South Africa. Advertisement Kinexys supports programmable payments and near real-time foreign exchange settlements while integrating with existing infrastructure like SWIFT. So banks don’t have to rip out their current plumbing to use it.
KB Kookmin and JPMorgan had previously signed a memorandum of understanding focused on blockchain-based remittance innovation. The August launch is the first concrete product to emerge from that partnership. Kinexys by the numbers Kinexys rebranded from JPMorgan’s Onyx platform in late 2024.
The platform has processed more than $4 trillion in cumulative transaction volume, with average daily transactions exceeding $7 billion. The platform operates as a permissioned blockchain, meaning only approved participants can access the network. South Korea’s broader blockchain push KB Kookmin is also participating in a government-led infrastructure initiative involving deposit token payments, which was announced on July 23, 2026.
