Jesse Minter says Ravens want Tyler Loop tested under pressure
Ravens coach Jesse Minter says kicker Tyler Loop is moving past his rookie struggles with a focus on mental toughness.
Every kicker eventually faces a defining moment, and for Tyler Loop, last season ended with one he'd rather forget. But according to head coach Jesse Minter, the Ravens aren't dwelling on the past. Instead, they're focused on helping Loop build confidence through repetition and opportunities.
Minter understands the unique challenges that come with playing the position and believes the young kicker has handled the offseason exactly the way Baltimore hoped he would. When asked about Loop's development, Minter pointed to the mental toughness required to survive at the position."It's a process-driven position, in my mind, where you have to be able to flush out bad things that happen and trust your process."
Minter also emphasized that Loop's rookie season shouldn't be defined by a single moment."I thought [Tyler Loop] had a really good rookie year overall, but of course, you're judged by some of the biggest moments."The coach was pleased to see Loop connect on a 40-yard kick to end minicamp and noted that the team intentionally creates pressure situations during practice."
We want to create opportunities for him to have these moments in front of people, in front of the team."The Ravens know questions will remain until games begin, but Minter's confidence in Loop is evident. For now, Baltimore believes its young kicker is moving in the right direction.
