ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) has launched STT Seoul 1, its first data centre in South Korea, with full commercial operations beginning in June. The facility, located in Gasan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, has about 40,000 square metres of gross floor area and supports up to 30 megawatts of information technology load.

It is designed for hyperscale and enterprise deployments, including high-density workloads.The data centre was developed and is operated through a joint venture between STT GDC, which holds 60%, and Hyosung Heavy Industries, which holds 40%. South Korea is a key market for digital infrastructure, supported by enterprise digitalisation and growing demand for computing capacity, STT GDC said.

“STT Seoul 1 establishes an important foundation for STT GDC’s presence in Korea, extending a globally consistent platform into a key Northeast Asian market,” said Charles Chulhoy Huh, Country Head, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (Korea).In a separate announcement, the group expanded its Indonesian data centre campus with the launch of STT Jakarta 2 and new development phases for three other facilities.The facility features dual 22.

9-kilovolt power feeds, a redundant configuration, and backup generators that can operate for up to 24 hours without refuelling.The centre also has a cooling system designed to support power usage effectiveness of below 1.3 and includes thermal energy storage for continuous cooling.

Moreover, it uses a seven-layer physical security framework, including intelligent video analytics and biometric authentication.STT Seoul 1 has achieved LEED Gold certification.
