Then on Sunday, NBA insider Grant Afseth reported that there was a "potential multi-team trade framework making the rounds in league circles" that would land Antetokounmpo in Boston, Jaylen Brown with the Los Angeles Clippers and the Clippers' No. 5 overall draft pick heading to Milwaukee "as part of the return."MassLive.
com Celtics reporter Brian Robb analyzed the possible deal on Monday and noted that there was a "big issue.""However, a closer look at this hypothetical trade leads to questions on multiple fronts. To begin, let’s look at the money in this proposed deal," Robb wrote, noting Brown's $53.
1 million salary and Antetokounmpo's $54.1 million pay. "There is a big issue here to begin.
In order to make this kind of deal legal, it needs to involve proper salary matching. The Clippers would have to send out at least $42 million in salary to take on Brown’s contract in any trade scenario (on top of the No. 5 overall pick) with this type of construction."
The insider added that Los Angeles would likely need to "trade some star power" in the potential blockbuster to make things work financially."There are going to be a lot of trade rumors in the days leading up to the NBA Draft next week. This latest one involving Brown doesn’t pass the smell test unless there are a lot more moving parts involved," Robb said.
