One of the examples given was: “Call Sammy’s teachers at 10.30am”. As a teacher of 34 years of broken sleep, I am going to take Dr King’s advice by creating my own list.
Item 1: ignore Sammy’s parent’s phone call at 10.30am as I will be too busy teaching. If it’s important, they will leave a message.
I feel better already.Colin MannBarrhead, East Renfrewshire “Some say the world will end in fire, / Some say in ice”. Well, that’s that argument settled, anyway (More than 200,000 people flee or lock down as wildfires sweep France and Spain, 24 July).
Emeritus prof Glyn TurtonBaildon, West Yorkshire Hannah Kaitlin-Boyer reckons everyone knows what she means by supper (Letters, 24 July). She’d be very welcome to have supper at our house, but she might become a little peckish: “supper” is a substantial meal taken just before bedtime. Sometimes the chipper is fired up, so it’s worth waiting.

For travelling? I can’t get the image of trying to negotiate a train loo out of my mind (School’s out for summer: what to wear when travelling, 24 July).Joan LewisSaint-Étienne-de-Gourgas, FranceExplore more on these topicsSleepBrief lettersFoodTeachinglettersShareReuse this content
