Julian Nagelsmann’s side registered eight shots in the opening 13 minutes, with Curaçao struggling to break through a well-organised German defence despite brief spells of pressure.
Curaçao responded with a historic equaliser, as Comenencia scored their first-ever FIFA World Cup goal, before Jürgen Locadia went close to giving them the lead shortly after. However, Germany re-established control approaching the half-hour mark, creating further chances through Schlotterbeck, Aleksandar Pavlović, Havertz and Leroy Sané, before Schlotterbeck headed home from a corner to restore their lead at 2-1.On the stroke of half-time, Nmecha was brought down inside the area by Riechedly Bazoer, with the referee immediately awarding a penalty to Germany.
