Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra launches as Samsung’s ‘most advanced’ foldable, starts at $2,099

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is officially live, taking the spot as the premium option in a newly expanded lineup of foldable phones. Samsung announced three new phones – the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra has changed the least on the surface, sticking to its tall but somewhat narrow form factor in favor of a taller inner display. It’s a package that’s become popular for the company, so Samsung is offering it with upgraded performance. In its announcement, Samsung called the phone its “most advanced foldable design.”

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is the slimmest foldable Samsung has developed, taking up just 4.1mm of vertical space when unfolded. It’s a thickness decrease of just 0.

1mm, but Samsung is attributing it to a new ‘Flex Titanium’ display backing. The support structure is supposed to offer better reliability, opting to use titanium instead of plastic components for the majority of the display’s foundation. Opting for the new display build also means the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra’s crease visibility is miles better than it has been in previous years.

5-inch FHD+ AMOLED 2X display with an 8-inch internal QXGA+ AMOLED 2X panel. Both reach up to 120Hz with adaptive refresh control. Samsung has also made an upgrade to the cover display with a switch to Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3.

Similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 8, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra gets a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC. The lowest amount of RAM the Fold 8 Ultra comes with is 12GB for the 256GB and 512GB models, and it peaks at 16GB with the 1TB model. Battery gets a massive boost over the previous model, and even its current-gen counterpart.

It’s been increased to 5,000mAh, which is a change many have been eagerly waiting for. It should mean longer use between charges. On paper, 5,000mAh from 4,400mAh is a huge win.

Samsung also says it’s rated for 45W wired charging thanks to a new “dual-path charging architecture” that aids in distributing charge more evenly across the two batteries. The upgrade also brings wireless charging up to 20W speeds, but there’s no mention of Qi2 magnets for accessories. For its namesake, Samsung is equipping the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra with a more extensive and premium set of cameras.

A small improvement comes to the 200MP main sensor, and its ability to shoot in HDR at full resolution. The ultra-wide camera gets a bump to 50MP, like the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Samsung says macro shooting has also been improved.

The phone is also the only one of the three releases to get a 10MP telephoto lens. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will launch with Android 17 (One UI 9). These devices will be the first to run on Samsung’s public One UI 9 release, meaning Now Brief, Now Nudge, and Gemini Intelligence features will bring new features into play.

That apparently includes Gemini Intelligence’s ability to navigate across “40+” apps and services, acting as an agent. Gemini Notebook will also play a big part as an integrated resource for dropping files and data. The unfortunate news is that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra comes with a price increase, starting at $2,099.

Samsung plans to offer several colorways, including Graphite, Cream, Violet Shadow, and Green Shadow. The latter two will be online exclusives. You can pre-order the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 on Samsung’s website.
