Former Oklahoma Sooners OL traded to Atlanta Falcons
Former OU offensive lineman traded to Falcons.
Former Oklahoma Sooners offensive lineman Wanya Morris was traded this past week, as the Kansas City Chiefs flipped him to the Atlanta Falcons in a trade that also included a late-round pick swap. After transferring in from Tennessee, Morris spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons at OU, starting eight games at offensive tackle in '22. He was second-team All-Big 12 that season.
He was drafted by KC in the 3rd round (92nd overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft, and he spent three seasons with the Chiefs.Morris is a Super Bowl champion, having won Super Bowl LVIII with Kansas City after his rookie season. He's made 16 starts in his NFL career, including 11 in the 2024 season, when the Chiefs won the AFC Championship Game and played in Super Bowl LIX.
Morris often played in a reserve swing tackle role with the Chiefs, but he should have more of a role in Atlanta, where the Falcons are looking to rebuild their offensive line, especially at tackle. Morris often plays right tackle, which is actually the blindside tackle spot for Atlanta, who will start either Michael Penix Jr. or Tua Tagovailoa at quarterback this year.
Both signal-callers are left-handed.Morris is coming off a season-ending knee injury last year, and he'll look to become a full-time starter for the Falcons.Trade: The Kansas City Chiefs are dealing OT Wanya Morris to the Atlanta Falcons, per sources.
