× Former India cricketer Ambati Rayudu made a huge prediction for veteran batter Rohit Sharma at the 2027 ODI World Cup. Rohit will be in action during the upcoming three-match one-day series in England in July. Ad Ambati Rayudu believed that Rohit would certainly be a part of the plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
He reckoned that the selectors and management would certainly have had a word with him. The former cricketer stressed the importance of an experienced campaigner in the squad in a big tournament such as the World Cup. "I think clarity is important for him and I am sure they would have given it to him.
Maybe they are not just giving us the clarity. His experience is invaluable as a leader, not only on the ground but in the dressing room, to keep the atmosphere nice and that is very important going into a big tournament. I am sure he is in the plans and that is the reason why he is persisted with.
I am sure he will step up in a big tournament and even against England, he will be hungry and raring to go," Ambati Rayudu told a select group of journalists. Ad Trending There has been a debate over playing Yashasvi Jaiswal in the ODI side, given that he has performed when given an opportunity. However, with Shubman Gill and Rohit being the set opening pair, Jaiswal will have to wait further to break into the XI as a regular.
Rayudu expressed that he would ideally want both Jaiswal and Rohit in the side if given a choice. That said, he reflected that the left-hander must be given enough opportunities to stay prepared should India need him to play at any point during the World Cup. Ad "For me, both have a place if given a choice.
Rohit definitely should be in the plans for the World Cup. You need all that experience to come to the fore to encounter tough challenges which might arise in the World Cup. When it comes to Jaiswal, I think he deserves his opportunity and there is no doubt about it.
He will get his due but he should be prepared to contribute in the World Cup and should be a part of the team going forward," he added. Ad Rohit looked in good touch in the Afghanistan ODIs recently. He made 143 runs from three games at an average of 47.
66 at a strike rate of 115.32. On the other hand, Jaiswal slammed an unbeaten ton in the final game, scoring 110* off just 86 balls.
Ambati Rayudu on star batter's mindset and competition in the ODI team While the spotlight would be on Rohit Sharma in the upcoming England series, there would certainly be eyes on star batter Virat Kohli as well. Virat missed the Afghanistan series but will be back in action in England. Ad Recalling India's tour to England in 2014, Rayudu was asked about Kohli's comeback and how he transitioned from failure in the Tests and ODIs to doing well in the only T20I on the same tour.
"A guy like him, who is so meticulous with his processes, training, and methodology, knows there will be ups and downs. When you are so focused and your training is so proper, you know that those lows will not last for a long time, and he has had very good help from the team management. For him, it has been the process and he has set the bar.
A lot of youngsters have tried to emulate it and have really benefited from what he has done and learning from it. He has been a great example," he explained. Ad Further, Rayudu was asked about the future of Ishan Kishan in ODIs with Kohli coming back for the England series.
In Kohli's absence during the Afghanistan series, Kishan did well in the top order. The former cricketer reckoned that it was good to have Kishan in the one-day setup. While he would have to make way for Kohli in England, Rayudu felt that the left-hander would eventually bat at four when his opportunity comes.
Ad "It is great that Ishan is part of the ODI setup. I see him eventually batting at four, as it is an ideal spot for him, being a left-hander. He and Shreyas can have that role of four and five, that will be a very formidable four and five for India going forward."
