Emma Raducanu's coach slammed by former British No. 1 for coming back to Brit after US Open mistreatment

× Emma Raducanu has reunited with her old coach Andrew Richardson ahead of the Wimbledon Championships. While the duo's partnership has once again garnered immediate success, former British No.1 John Llyod recently slammed Richardson for coming back to work with the WTA star.

Ad Raducanu and Richardson first began working with each other in July 2021. Weeks after beginning their partnership, Richardson led the Brit to the US Open title, making her the first qualifier in history to win a Grand Slam event. However, a few days after this feat, Raducanu and Richardson parted ways.

The 23-year-old saw a sharp dip in her level after her triumph in New York and she recently revived her partnership with Richardson, a move that resulted in her reaching the finals of the HSBC Championships, a WTA 500 event. Ad Trending Reflecting on their fresh partnership, John Llyod expressed his reservations about Andrew Richardson returning to Emma Raducanu, telling Tennis 365, “Well, I mean, no one else has said this, so I’ll probably get in trouble but to be honest, if I was Andrew Richardson, I would have thought long and hard (about) accepting to come back. After what happened at the US Open…

that, to me, was mind-boggling. And then she comes back to him when she needs help.” Ad Llyod went on to add that he hopes Raducanu gives Richardson a ‘fair chance’ in the upcoming months, saying, “But whatever, that’s another topic, and that’s for them to see that they’ve worked it out, and they’re fine.

I just hope that she sticks with him and gives him a fair chance.” John Llyod was active on the ATP Tour in the 1970s and 1980s. His career saw him reach the finals of the 1977 Australian Open where he lost to Vitas Gerulaitis.

He unlocked a career-high ranking of World No. 23 a year later. He also won three Major titles in the mixed doubles event.
